Acoustica was presented with the Australian Anthill Magazine Innovation Award for their revolutionary QuietWave acoustic wall treatment.

QuietWave is a revolution in Sound Transmission Loss (STL) for walls, floors and ceilings. A 1mm coating of this visco-elastic material covering only 33% of the surface is equivalent to 20Kg of material such as plasterboard, plywood or MDF.

QuietWave is set to change the way that plasterboard companies manufacture high density plasterboard.

QuietWave, made from natural organic materials, is environmentally friendly displacing a significant amount of embodied energy.

ACOUSTICA IN THE MINING INDUSTRY

Futurebilt International Pty Ltd

Futurebilt’s modular construction units are prefabricated air conditioned suites which are completely fitted out and ready for connection to all services. The modular construction system is especially suitable in the construction of three to five star hotels and retirement villages.

The modular units are also constructed and fitted out as stand alone or integrated units for remote housing in mining towns, emergency housing and also for defence and industrial applications.

To ensure a quite environment within Futurebilt’s Modular units the walls and ceiling incorporate the patented QuietWave® acoustic membrane from Acoustica®. With this unique visco-elastic membrane the wall construction of the Modular Building System achieves the highest rating of sound transmission loss (STL) of Rw 63dB with the smallest building footprint.

PROCESSING

Fine Grinding, where ball mills, hammer mills, pin mills, jet mills etc. have been traditionally used.

DevourX Pty Ltd item13 devourx www.devourX.com

DevourX machines replicate nature by reproducing the forces of a tornado or cyclone. The cyclonic power is controlled and can be harnessed for numerous purposes.

Although purpose built for fine grinding applications, it is suitable for most applications where mechanical hammers or crushers are presently used and can also be used to remove moisture from material.

The DevourX machines are installed in 40 foot shipping containers and the extreme noise generated by processing and crushing of rock provided significant acoustic challenges.

Acoustica were consulted by DevourX who developed a special product that was installed on the internal surfaces of the container.

Acoustica also supplies to DevourX customers a special acoustic insulation system for feed hoppers and piping to the DevourX containerised machine.

Excellence in Innovative Product or Service Award. Recognition for the World Premiere of Acoustica's new Fire Proofing System.

In 1991 Acoustica® was the first to introduce polyester sound and thermal insulating materials to Australia. This breakthrough with polyesters revolutionised the industry by overcoming health and recycling issues associated with the then existing products.

Since 2003, Acoustica® has developed a replacement for PVC products based on organic (food waste) products, which is 100% environmentally friendly, yet extremely durable.

Acoustica has also developed a high performance drywall noise barrier, which is revolutionary for the industry as it delivers six-star acoustic performance, a class above the BCA requirements, from the thinnest possible wall. QuietWave® wall system provides a saving of 50% in the width of the wall against a comparable 6 star rated wall system. m˛ of floor-space is gained for every 6.6 m length of wall, reducing the overall footprint of the apartment block.

Acoustica’s latest development is a new fire-coating and fire-product which is not only completely fire-proof, but 100% ‘green,’ requires very little energy to produce, and contains very little ‘embodied energy.’

Acoustica has been nominated as a finalist in the Western Sydney Industry Awards 2007 in recognition of these developments.

Lane Cove Tunnel, Commonwealth Games Village & Surry Hills Terraces

crosscitytunnel1

The builders of the 2006 Commonwealth Games Village and the contractors for the Sydney Lane Cove Tunnel project along with the occupiers of inner city Surry Hills terraces all had a common problem to overcome. To shut noise out, but let fresh air in.

The final link in Sydney’s orbital road network, the construction of the twin 3.2km Lane Cove tunnel and addition of two lanes to the Gore Hill Freeway was subject to stringent conditions covering management of water and air quality, noise, dust control and other environmental aspects.

One hundred and fifty residences required acoustic treatment under the Operational Noise Management Plan. With doors and windows of residences sealed to keep noise out, the joint venture contractors Theiss John Holland engaged the Sydney Acoustic materials manufacturer and supplier, Acoustica Pty Ltd, to supply fresh air to these sealed residences.

To provide fresh air yet keep noise out , Acoustica installed the RTA approved Aeropac dual function ventilator. The Aeropac noise absorbing ventilator takes in outside air, removes engine emissions and pollutants with it’s active carbon filter, absorbs airborne noise and silently provides a healthy supply of clean fresh air. The energy efficient Aeropac consumes only 9 watts of power with an air change of 130m3/hr

The Lane Cove tunnel project follows on the heels of the installation of Aeropac units for portable accommodation units at the Commonwealth Games Village. Acoustica’s Aeropac units were installed to absorb road noise and pollutants from the Tullamarine Freeway and provide a healthy supply of clean fresh air.

In Surry Hills the external and internal components of the Aeropac noise absorbing ventilator were mounted either side of a glass wall rather than being interconnected by a tube through the wall and cavity.
